IV Annual Conference of Emerging Scholars "Russian Literature in Comparative Perspective"
IV Annual Conference of Emerging Scholars
30 November – 1 December, 2018
School of Philology of the Faculty of Humanities (HSE) invites undergraduate and postgraduate students from Russia and abroad to participate in the conference for emerging scholars.
We welcome papers problematizing Russian literary history as a history of cross-cultural interconnections and influences.
Topics of the papers may include but are not limited to:
- Reception of foreign authors and texts in Russia and mechanisms of cultural transfer;
- History of canonization of foreign writers in Russia, status of a foreign text in the national canon;
- History of translation and problems of cultural “untranslatability”;
- “Imported” genres in Russian cultural context;
- Cultural and social functions of foreign literature in the secluded Soviet society;
- Russian classical and contemporary literature in the world;
- The “Other” in Russian literature, Russia and Russians in foreign texts;
- Intermedia adaptations of foreign texts in Russia and Russian texts abroad (such as film and theatrical adaptations).
We welcome proposals for 15 minutes papers.
Discussants will be assigned to each thematic panel. Therefore, we ask the speakers to provide a text of their conference paper no later than 5 days before the conference.
Date and location : the conference will take place on the November, 30 – December, 1 in the building of the Faculty of Humanities, HSE (Staraya Basmannaya ul., 21/4)
The proposals are to include the information about the speaker (full name, affiliation, department, year of study, contact details such as email and phone number (optional)), name of the academic supervisor (optional), the topic of the paper) and an abstract no longer than 2000 characters.
Languages of the conference : Russian and English
The proposals are to be sent to hse.phil.conference@gmail.com by November, 12.
Successful applicants will be notified no later than November, 15.
