Digital Literary Studies Research Group

About the Group

Our project sets out to showcase a large-scale digital approach for the history of Russian literature. We combine social network analysis with structuralist and formalist approaches and apply an automated data analysis to identify and characterise structural features of hundreds of Russian dramas. Building on existing digitisations of the Russian literary heritage, we assemble a corpus of Russian plays from the end of the 18th century to the first third of the 20th century. The aim of the project is to extract social networks from these texts and apply network metrics to analyse the development of literature on a factual basis.
