Lecture by B.L. Khavkin "German Money for the Russian Revolution" in the framework of the seminar "West and East: Universalism of Culture"

On September 18, 2017 in the framework of the seminar "West and East: Universalism of Culture" of the International Laboratory for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue, the specialist in the history of Russian-German relations, Professor of History and Archives of the RSUH, Doctor of History Boris Khavkin made a report.

In his report Professor B. L. Khavkin gave an answer to the question "Where did V.I. Lenin, who called after the complete victory of socialism to make toilet bowls from gold, received money, considerable sums, for the revolution from?"  B.L. Khavkin emphasized that the purse of the revolution was replenished mainly through the commission of criminal offenses and at the expense of "sponsors" money, among which Germany played a prominent role. The question of financing the Russian revolution by the Germans during the First World War and after the seizure of power by the Bolsheviks in October 1917 still raises interest in the historiography of Russia and Germany.
