Jan Surman has participated in academic events in Frankfurt and Budapest
IGITI Research Fellow Jan Surman took part in a conference “Problems of Scientific Freedom in Modern and Contemporary History” in Frankfurt (November 2-3), “Academic Freedom in Historical Perspective – Anniversary Conference of the European Review of History” in Budapest (8-10 November), and a series of public lectures on recent research in Habsburg history at CEU, Budapest.

In September, IGITI Research Centre for Contemporary Culture held a seminar ‘Analysing “informal” practices in (digital) cultural economies’. The talk was presented by Dr Ellen Rutten, Professor of Literature at the University of Amsterdam. To See Paris and Die: The Soviet Lives of Western Culture

In March, the International Center for the History and Sociology of World War II and Its Consequences at HSE welcomed Eleonor Gilburd, Assistant Professor of the History and the College at the University of Chicago. Professor Gilburd presented her book 'To See Paris and Die: The Soviet Lives of Western Culture' which deals with the history of translation, cultural diplomacy and exchange and the interpretation of Western texts by Soviet audiences in the mid-20th century. She spoke to HSE News Service about her research.
