A new paper on urban culture by Natalia Samutina and Boris Stepanov was published in journal "Urban History" (Vol. 45, Issue 1). The paper is titled "An eighteenth-century theme park: museum-reserve Tsaritsyno (Moscow) and the public culture of the post-Soviet metropolis" and discusses history of the Tsaritsyno Park in Moscow and museum-reserve. On January 15 Stephen Kotkin, Professor of History at Princeton University and Associated Researcher at the International Center for the History and Sociology of World War II and Its Consequences, gave a book presentation "Stalin: Waiting for Hitler, 1919-1941"
Jessica Werneke, who completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Iowa and her PhD at the University of Texas at Austin, joined the International Centre for the History and Sociology of World War II and its Consequences as a Research Fellow in 2016. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, she has spent a considerable amount of time living internationally – in both the UK and Latvia – and following her post-doc plans to start a new position as a Newton International Fellow of the British Academy at Loughborough University, where she will continue her research on Soviet photography clubs and amateur photographers in the RSFSR and the Baltic Republics.

On December 22nd professor Jean-Michel Kantor (Institut de Mathématiques de Jussieu - Paris Rive Gauche (IMJ-PRG)) gave a talk "Mathematics and the World" at the joint meeting of Logico-philosophical club and "The aesthetics of the transcendental" seminar (HSE)
From November 27 to December 1, 2017 a seminar on "Methods for linguistic convergence research" was held at the laboratory. The seminar was devoted to discussing the intermediate results of research projects, as well as the immediate tasks and general goals of the participants. It was the first joint meeting of all employees and partners.
