On April 6-7 IGITI's Leading Research Fellow Olessia Kirtchik took part in the annual conference of the Center for the History of Political Economy, at Duke University. This year, conference was organised by Till Düppe and Ivan Boldyrev, and it's title was "Economic Knowledge in Socialism".

Svetlana Dorofeeva, a member of the HSE Center for language and brain, spoke at the 19th annual April HSE international conference in the section "The Russian language in the multilingual world".

On April 17-18 research fellows of IGITI's Center for the History of Text and Language Studies Julia Ivanova and Pavel Sokolov took part in an international conference "Vico and after: fragments of antiquity, passing of centuries, new sciences" (Vico e oltre: Frantumi di antichità, scorsa di secoli, nuove scienze). The conference was organised by the University of Eastern Piedmont Amedeo Avogadro and was dedicated to the 350th anniversary of Neapolitan philosopher Giambattista Vico (1668-1744).

On April 16-20 in Perm State University an international school "The City in the Spotlight. Methodological and Epistemological Challenges for Studying Urban Governance" was held. The school was organised by The Centre for Comparative History and Political Studies (Perm) and Leibniz-Institut für Länderkunde (Leipzig).

These days, no scientific research is carried out without the use of digital media for the production or dissemination of knowledge. The term ‘Digital Humanities’ reflects this process and constitutes a scientific field where humanists not only aim to use a certain software, but also to understand research using quantitative semantics. However, digital infrastructures are not the same globally. In her talk at the HSE April International Academic Conference Dr Gimena del Rio Riande addressed various issues that arise in connection with digital humanities.

On April 2, official award ceremony was held to celebrate staff of Higher School of Economics with "Aknowledgement" medals. Leading research fellows of IGITI Natalia Samutina and Julia Ivanova were awarded with "Aknowledgement — 15 years of successful work" and "Aknowledgement — 10 years of successful work" medals. In March, the International Center for the History and Sociology of World War II and Its Consequences at HSE welcomed Eleonor Gilburd, Assistant Professor of the History and the College at the University of Chicago. Professor Gilburd presented her book 'To See Paris and Die: The Soviet Lives of Western Culture' which deals with the history of translation, cultural diplomacy and exchange and the interpretation of Western texts by Soviet audiences in the mid-20^th century. She spoke to HSE News Service about her research.

On March 19 and 22, Per Durst-Andersen, professor in the Department of Management, Society and Communication at Copenhagen Business School, gave three lectures at the Higher School of Economics on topics that fall under his current research interests, which focus largely on cognitive linguistics; communicative and linguistic typology; language, culture and identity; semiotics; and the philosophy of science. A well-known expert in cross-cultural pragmatics and specialist in business communication, Professor Durst-Andersen delivered the lectures as part of the ‘Language in the Universe of Culture: Russian Communicative Style’ course.
