Professor Almira Ousmanova of the European Humanities University, Vilnius, has run a course on ‘Visuality in Contemporary Culture’ and a research seminar for students of the HSE University Faculty of Humanities. The events were held as part of the ‘Digital Professors’ project in the 2020/21 academic year. In her interview with the HSE News Service, Prof. Ousmanova explains what her students learned and how she was named one of HSE’s best teachers.

November 25, 2021 marked the publishing of a corpus of Soqotri folklore texts. Translated into Classical Arabic, the texts are accompanied by a brief introduction explaining the basic principles of the Soqotri writing system, which is based on the Arabic orthography. The authors of the book are Soqotri native speakers Ahmed Isa al-Daarhi, Isa Gumaan al-Daarhi, and Maysoon Mohammed Aldarhi. It was published by Maria Bulakh and Leonid Kogan under the editorship of Prof. Vitaly Naumkin, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The publication was supported by the UAE Embassy in Moscow.

John Paul II (Krakow) Teresa Obolevich made a report within the framework of the seminar 'West and East: Universalism of Culture' of the International Laboratory for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue.
Researchers of the School of Philological Studies and the Laboratory for Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Projects (HSE University) have prepared a report analyzing communication between pilots and air traffic controllers, and also the barriers that can prevent pilots and controllers from understanding each other. They conducted their research as part of an HSE Big Project called ‘ Language Practices’ led by Professor Mira Bergelson.
Anastasiya Bonch-Osmolovskaya, Associate Professor at the School of Linguistics and Head of the Master’s in Digital Humanities, took part in the first webinar of the UniverCities and Culture series held by the University Network of European Capitals of Culture and the Network of Universities from the Capitals of Europe (UNICA) on November 17. She spoke about The Digital Tolstoy Initiative, a joint effort by linguists, philologists, and programmers to develop a digital 'semantic' edition of Leo Tolstoy's complete works. Linguistic Convergence Laboratory will organize a free online course on the East Caucasian (alias Nakh-Daghestanian) language family. The course consists of 9 lectures and will cover a variety of topics. Lecturers include experts from other institutes and members of the laboratory. The course will start on November 3 with a lecture by Yuri Koryakov and Samira Verhees: "Linguistic geography of East Caucasian languages".
Professor Boris Kashnikov, member of the board of directors of the European Society for Military ethics, has given a talk at 14th ICRC Senior Workshop on International Rules Governing Military Operations (SWIRMO), attended by some 250 senior military officers from around the world.

University of Hamburg professors Denis Nosnitsin and Magdalena Krzyzanowska delivered a series of online lectures dedicated to the study of Ethiopian manuscripts.
